Winter. It is winter. Yes, I know it’s supposed to be cold. But this is like Alaska cold. Ok, maybe I’m slightly exaggerating but when you wake up and it’s 10 degrees outside but a real feel of 1, it becomes Alaska cold lol. Because of the blast of extreme cold, the horses haven’t beenContinue reading “Saturday Evening Diary – Brrrr, it’s cold – a chaperoned “date” and a patient still in the medical ward.”

Wednesday Evening Diary – shoe is back on!
After 7 days, Alfie’s hoof is doing better. There is no evidence of a popped abscess, and his foot is less sore. The farrier came back today to put his shoe back on. Alfie isn’t 100% sound yet but he also isn’t lame. The farrier is now convinced that Alfie most likely stepped on hisContinue reading “Wednesday Evening Diary – shoe is back on!”
Sunday Afternoon Diary – cleaning tack and waiting for an abscess to pop
You all know that expression – a watched pot never boils. Well I can officially tell you the same is true for a hoof with an abscess. Today, I stared at Alfie’s hoof whenever I walked by him, trying to will the abscess to break open. I was excited to have the dressing changed toContinue reading “Sunday Afternoon Diary – cleaning tack and waiting for an abscess to pop”
Saturday Evening Diary – a scandalous 3rd date, a walk around the arena and a diaper filled with Epsom salts…
It’s Saturday. As I pull into the driveway of the barn, I glance over at Alfie’s paddock, he sadly isn’t in it. It’s been 3 days, the abscess on his foot hasn’t blown out yet. Wait, I didn’t tell you about the abscess! On Wednesday I went to the barn for our groundwork session. I’mContinue reading “Saturday Evening Diary – a scandalous 3rd date, a walk around the arena and a diaper filled with Epsom salts…”
Sunday Evening Diary – ground work makes the dream work
Today was a ground work day for Alfie. Let me rephrase that – it was a groundwork day for ME & ALFIE. My Apple Watch tells me I burned 633 calories today, walked/jogged 4.19 miles, took a total of 9,033 steps. Now, whether or not Alfie burned 633 in our 42 min session, I did.Continue reading “Sunday Evening Diary – ground work makes the dream work”
Saturday Evening Diary – focused and confident – a rare occurance
Focused and confident – that’s what I was feeling today. Experiencing both of these on the same day is not an every ride occurrence. In fact, it’s more of an anomaly. A few years ago I realized that my ability to be focused and confident in my riding was tied directly to my – IContinue reading “Saturday Evening Diary – focused and confident – a rare occurance”
Sunday evening diary – Alfie wants to do more work, so we will do more work
In September 2019, Alfie and I competed in our first ever dressage horse show. It was a huge undertaking for us as we had only been in the world of dressage for less than 6 months. It was a walk/trot competition we entered. I wasn’t sure we were ready, but my trainer had every bitContinue reading “Sunday evening diary – Alfie wants to do more work, so we will do more work”
Saturday evening diary – owning a horse – a lifetime commitment
I had a great day today with my Alfie. Last week, I happened to be reading a fellow horse lovers blog and she was posting her review of a therapeutic sheet to help warm up a horses muscles and joints. The sheet is made of a material that captures the natural heat of the horseContinue reading “Saturday evening diary – owning a horse – a lifetime commitment”
Saturday evening diary – no really Mom – can we please trot over the pole?
As I’ve mentioned many times before, when it comes to Alfie and our lessons, Alfie’s needs, feelings, and fears are all taken into consideration before whatever I would like to learn or accomplish with him. Many might disagree with my approach and that’s ok. My goal with Alfie is to enjoy our riding time togetherContinue reading “Saturday evening diary – no really Mom – can we please trot over the pole?”
